Questions to Ask When Exploring Other Tutoring Options in Wellington

There are many tutoring options available to equestrians in Wellington, and to help choose the right fit for your son or daughter when competing at WEF, here are some important questions to consider when researching tutoring options in Wellington:

  1. How large is the tutoring service?
    • How many students do they accept each WEF season?
    • How many tutors do they employ?
    • Who oversees the exchange of assignments and the communication with the school and teachers?
  2. Does the tutoring service delegate the majority of the academic responsibility to a tutor, and act more as an agency?
    • Does someone within the company oversee every aspect of a student’s tutoring program?
    • Is there one person within the service who communicates with the teachers, or is this important component of the tutoring process delegated to the tutor(s)?
    • Do you have a direct phone number to reach the main person in charge of the service in the event you have a question about your child’s academics?
  3. How does the tutoring service find the tutors that are hired within the company, and will be working with your son or daughter?
    • Are the majority of the tutors currently employed as certified teachers?
    • Are any of the tutors certified by the NTA, National Tutoring Association?
    • Are the tutors tutoring the AP level classes certified as AP teachers and/or familiar with the format of the current AP exam (which can change annually)?
    • How many years of experience do their tutors have?
    • Are criminal backgrounds checks performed on the tutors prior to hiring?
  4. If considering a private tutor not affiliated with a service, how many years has he/she been working as a tutor?
    • How many years has he/she been solely working as a tutor?
    • Is tutoring what he/she does as a career, or is it a source of extra income to offset the expenses of showing at WEF, which also may be his/her main priority and may conflict with the student’s academic needs
    • How much experience communicating with schools and teachers does the private tutor have?
    • Is he/she a certified tutor by the NTA, National Tutoring Association?
    • How many hours a week does the tutor dedicate to his/her students’ academic needs?
